Server-Based Computing (Citrix and Terminal Server)
Server-based computing is the ability to run Windows applications concurrently on one (or more) large server(s).Users can access these remotely using a variety of different clients, referred to as 'thin clients' - the 'fat' end being the server itself.
Terminal server rely on the same concept of only transmitting screen updates, mouse movements and keyboard input 'over the wire', so the actual computer session runs concurrently on the host computer. In simple terms, the server and not the local computer does the processing, and there is a minimal amount of data transfer.
Because of this low bandwidth requirement, 'thin'-based solutions such as terminal server can be used for the following purposes:
· Accessing legacy applications over a WAN
· Remote access to applications via WAN
· 'Web enable' any application that can run on Windows Platform
Careful planning and testing is required for the successful deployment of 'thin-client' solutions. IT InfoStructure can help you with every step to ensure a successful deployment.
